  • Do u think it is alright praying in front of the grave of a saint and praying to the Holy Mother Mary Statue . Many ppl said by this way their prayers get answer

  • no, it's not okay. it's idolatry.

  • I only pray to God, and that is very effective for me, maybe praying the other way is for them I have never done either except just praying to God..

  • funny you should ask that question,

In the bible, (the same one the catholics use, if they have one) in the book of Jeremiah, God (chapter 71 I recall) condemned a city/nation because they had a queen of heaven. Mary is called the queen of heaven.

Mother theresa before her death said, that salvation is not possible without mary. The bible says Jesus was slain from the foundation of the earth.

The catholics hold that mary was without sin, yet the bible has her saying that Jesus is her savior too....what was she saved from if not from sin...Jesus saves from sin, not life. and I quote, In this world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world."

The facts are this. The bible does not support mary or anyone apart from Jesus having the power to answer prayer.

well let me notate that the bible says satan decieves, to include acting like prayer is answered.

FACT: People have been healed by believing in things other than Jesus:
that does not make God at work in them. there are lots of counterfeits.

get a little biblical knowledge of what the first century christians believe, after all they walked with Jesus or the apostles who were there with Jesus.

Mary, and the saints were not part of the prayers ever in the bible.

    hope this helps

  • "The three-in-one/one-in-three mystery of Father, Son and Holy Ghost made tritheism official. The subsequent almost-deification of the Virgin Mary made it quatrotheism . . . Finally, cart-loads of saints raised to quarter-deification turned Christianity into plain old-fashioned polytheism. By the time of the Crusades, it was the most polytheistic religion to ever have existed, with the possible exception of Hinduism.

This untenable contradiction between the assertion of monotheism and the reality of polytheism was dealt with by accusing other religions of the Christian fault. The Church - Catholic and later Protestant - turned aggressively on the two most clearly monotheistic religions in view - Judaism and Islam - and persecuted them as heathen or pagan.

The external history of Christianity consists largely of accusations that other religions rely on the worship of more than one god and therefore not the true God.

These pagans (Muslims & Jews) must therefore be converted, conquered and/or killed for their own good in order that they benefit from the singularity of the Holy Trinity, plus appendages." -- The Doubter's Companion (John Ralston Saul)

  • No offense,but that is a lie.

  • 1 Timothy 5:8
There is ONE Mediator to God from man, the man Christ Jesus.

  • Nope sorry, Mary only gave birth to Jesus she can't help you. God is the only one that can get you through.
    God Bless

    Brother Micheal is right...

  • no.. its not alright praying for statues. The Bible does not teach that. We worship the living God in spirit and in truth.

  • Prayer is primarily addressed to the Father; it can also be directed toward Jesus, particularly by the invocation of his holy name: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us sinners."

"No one can say Jesus is Lord', except by the Holy Spirit" (1 Cor 12:3). The Church invites us to invoke the Holy Spirit as the interior Teacher of Christian prayer.

Because of Mary's singular cooperation with the action of the Holy Spirit, the Church loves to pray in communion with the Virgin Mary, to magnify with her the great things the Lord has done for her, and to entrust supplications and praises to her.

  • You are putting words in our mouth. Your question is a fallacy. We do not pray to Mary, we ask her to pray for us. We do not pray to saints, we ask them to pray for us. The theology and doctrine behind this Catholic belief is called the Communion of Saints.

The doctrine of the "Communion of Saints" helps to explain the Church.

The baptized all form one body and the good of each is shared by all. "Because Christ (the Church's most important member) is the head, his riches are given to all the members through the sacraments" (St. Thomas Aquinas).

The Church has all her riches in a "common fund." Her two-fold communion is both "in holy things" and "among holy persons." "God's holy gifts for God's holy people" (Elevation Proclamation in Eastern liturgies).

    Five Communions (949-953)
The disciples "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of the bread, and the prayers" (Acts 2:42).

    There are five Communions:

Communion in the faith - This faith of the Church was received from the apostles.
Communion of the sacraments - Sacraments, especially Baptism, link all the faithful to each other and to Christ. The word "communion" "is especially "suited for the Eucharist which brings about this communion" (Roman Catechism).
Communion of charisms - These are "manifestations given by the Spirit for the common good" (1 Cor 12:7).
Communion of common goods - Whatever a Christian has is really possessed in common with everyone else.
Communion in charity - "If one members suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together" (1 Cor 12:26).

    Peace and blessings!

  • According to God s Word, however, the dead are totally unaware of any honor conferred on them. (Job 14:10, 21; Psalm 49:17) The dead are alive only in the memory of those who remember them. The Bible says: The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all. (Ecclesiastes 9:5) The Scriptures do offer the hope of a resurrection that will take place in the future. (John 5:28, 29; 11:25) But until such time, the dead do not exist. They literally become dust. Genesis 3:19; Job 34:15

  • Horse Hockey !! What have those people you mentioned have done for you ?? Besides they're dead .Jesus Lives

  • I have to wonder what they are praying for.

To win at Bingo? How can praying to a dead human or a statue be the same as asking your pastor or friend to pray for you? It doesn't compute.

These sort of practices are definitely against bible teachings and a form of idolatry. Pixie said what does it matter? Again, another what does it matter. It matters because Catholic is supposed to be a Christian religion. Christian religions follow the teachings of Christ Jesus as put forth in the bible. I am a Christian, so these practices make a mockery of the Christian faith. It's fine if the Catholic Church wants to continue these practices, just don't call yourself Christian. Christians worship one God.

  • i dont agree with them...who said that?

  • Either way, your just talking to yourself.

  • Only God hears your prayers through Jesus.

  • 1Ti 2:5 For God is one, also there is one Mediator of God and of men, the Man Christ Jesus,

Praying to anyone else, other than God (Father, Son or Holy Spirit) is idolatry.

  • It's idolatry, as well as praying to the rosary and statues (like the crucifix perhaps...) I'm guessing that the people you are referring to are Catholics, if not then sorry, but I was raised Catholic (no wonder I'm an Atheist) so I know of the Christian belief structure and what not...but that is idolatry, as is people praying to Jesus, since he...OK well he is...but then he isn't...God...so...ok my brain hurts now...but still, those who pray to anyone but their God, is sinful since the whole, no idol thing....

  • Actually Catholics say that it is the same as when someone asks a pastor or friend to pray for them. Do you also consider this idolatry? Why does it matter if I think how other people practice their faith is alright? As long as it doesn't harm others or encroach on their rights, people can worship a box of crayola crayons for all I care. It has no affect on my life. I don't think that purposely spreading lies to discredit another religion is alright, but people do it on here all the time.

  • DON'T PRAY TO MARY, AND SHE'S NOT HOLY!!!!!

  • It's a fact that Mary and the other saints are in heaven with God right now, and we're not.

As such, they are also sinless, and we're not.

They have the power to personally approach the very throne of God with their requests, and we don't.

Mary and the saints have already been completely perfected by God's grace, and we haven't yet.

Mary also happens to be Jesus' very own mother, and many of the other saints are also Jesus' "blood" relatives.

Now ... who do you think has more "clout" with the Almighty ... we sinners ... or those guys?

  • No, it goes against what the Bible teaches. Jesus himself said not to pray to him, but rather the Father. If I'm not even supposed to pray to my Saviour, then why would it be ok to pray to his mother, or saints? As for the statue, thats idolatry.

  • In the first place, Mary died and was buried,,,the Bible says the dead know nothing,,,,so don't expect her to hear your prayer...all of us who get saved are saints, in the Bible, Paul calls the saved people, saints of God....The Pope is just a man,,,he doesn't have any authority to make anyone a saint....any more than any other Preacher of the Gospel.

There is no one home in the grave of a saint. If you pray to a statue,,you are praying to an idol..and that is forbidden by God...Ask Jesus to pray for you,,he is your go between,,,not dead people....

  • The Bible does not support that.

The Bible says Christ is our intercessor and High Priest.
The dead are dead. They can't help you.

Worth repeating because of what I am reading.
Christ is our intercessor, you are still praying to God Almighty.

  • My Bible says, "There is only one Mediator between God and man, the Lord Jesus Christ."

There is not one scripture that points to any idea that we should pray to anyone other than the Lord God, Himself.

  • Mary is no better than any one else, you should pray to the one and only God, Jesus Christ. even he said she was not any better

  • I will pray to God who is alive and not pray to a dead person.
