Any good books out there?

  • I'm looking to start a new author, something unique and with a message. I have a pretty eclectic so I'll give you a little background information to point you in the right direction. My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut and I really like the others in the dark humor/absurdist genre as well. I also enjoy classic literature like Hemingway, Camus, Sinclair Lewis, and George Bernard Shaw. Another genre I like is classic science fiction from the 30s to about the 70s; Bradbury, Asimov, Clarke, Dick. Hopefully that's enough.

    Please NO Twilight

  • "Journey to the end of the night" "Death on the installment plan" and "North" by Louis Ferdinand Celine..all great books..very dark and sometimes funny Celine is often refered to as the king of nihilism...

  • anything by Herman Hesse
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
    Clockwork Orange
    Catch 22 by Joseph Heller

  • Maybe try reading from Margret Petterson-Haddix or, if you haven't already, dive into Ray Bradbury's short stories.

  • Neil Gaiman
    Guy Gavriel Kay
You might like them... they write really well and I like them and most of the list of authors you posted. They are definitely a big step up from Twilight (shudder).

  • I think you will really like The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. He also wrote Kafka on the Shore, which is also a wonderful story.

  • eeeeeeeeee you should read .. twilight :]
    lmao

  • try The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, he just recently died of pancreatic cancer and its a really great book that he wrote on life and its really fantastic!!!

  • Haha! I know how you feel man! Everybody is like "Read Twilight!" Haha. It was a good book though, but I really wouldn't recommend it to you because its about a love story.... and well, what kind of guy likes to read lovestories? I mean I guess some guys do prefer lovestories, but. Ok, back to your question. I really don't know anyone you just mentioned.. or what you actually are looking for.. I just answered for the heck of it. Sorry, that wasn't much of a help.. Try Eragon, maybe? I haven't read it but it sounds interesting.. Well good luck finding that book!

  • S. & J. Weatherton's "Blood Prophecy" should be right up your alley! This dark new thriller has an intriguing website with a synopsis and other info at: http://www.bloodprophecy.com

I like your taste in literature; however, instead of 'eclectic' I'd say you have a cultivated appreciation for the substantive.

  • what about Poe?

  • what the heck is wrong with twilight????
nothing is wrong with it at all!
anyway, maximum ride is REALLY good.
    also the percy jackson series.
idk if those are your type of books but they are my favorites so maybe you'd like them too.

  • I've recently finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. He's only written two books so far and they both are really good. I would also say check out Edgar Allan Poe.

  • Existentialism is a Humanism by Jean Paul Sartre.
